Myofascial Release
What is Fascia?
Fascia is a tough connective tissue throughout the body. It spreads from head to toe, without interruption, in a three-dimensional web. Trauma, posture or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, joints and/or organs. It is thought that an extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but most go undiagnosed.
Our approach to Myofascial Release
Lenita has taken extensive training in the John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release approach. This approach consists of the gently application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. Fascia has a viscoelastic quality causes it to resist a suddenly applied force. With the Barnes’ approach, the gentle pressure is held so the fascia can release and elongate. Evidence has shown that this pressure sometimes may need to be held for up to 5 minutes in an area to fully release the fascial restriction.
If you have chronic pain, headaches and/or restrictive range of motion that only gets temporary relief from other types of therapy, then Myofascial Release is probably for you!
